There’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes to get things ready for the kids to kick-off on 15th April (just 5 weeks away!) and now we need you all as carers of the kids to volunteer for game day roles and get trained / accredited.
Volunteer Roles, Training and Working with Children
There are a number of dates that you need to save, particularly if you are volunteering as a First Aid Trainer, a Volunteer Umpire (U8-U10) or a Coach / Assistant Coach.
Each team needs at least two certified First Aiders. To help with this, we are holding First Aid Training at 7pm, Duncan St.
26th (CPR & Provide First Aid)
27th (Provide First Aid)
28th March (ERC)
You can book at https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=363552
There are two scenarios here:
If you have a child playing U8-U10, you do not get an SMJFL umpire. One volunteer umpire from each side will umpire the game, so each U8-U10 team needs at least two certified volunteer umpires (so umpires can swap from week to week).
There are three training nights which have been indicatively set at Tuesday 27th March, Saturday 14th April and Wednesday 2nd May.
The league will provide more info on these dates shortly or feel free to check http://smjfl.com.au/index0233/ for the latest.

Tony Pucella (or 'Pooch' as we all know him) will be running our first COACH the COACHES SESSION next Sunday 18th March from 9am - 11am at Duncan Street.
We will go through heaps of great drills & explain the culture & methodology that we're trying to create at the Zebs right through from Auskick to U17's. These sessions will help you to understand the messages that we are trying to impart, as well as learn some great footy drills so you can assist & be part of it!
No need to bring anything (except a notepad if you wish). It’s best to dress in relaxed training gear as many of you will be partaking in the drills as we demonstrate how to run them and lessons for the kids.
We hope to see as many of you there as possible.
We will hold two TM Briefings to handover match balls, match day paperwork and go through what a TM needs to do before, during and after a game. We plan on using TeamStuff for all teams this year, so this will be an important session to get your season off to a good start.
Briefing #1:21st March, at 6.30 for 45mins, location TBA.
Briefing #2: (to get match balls and address any other queries from night #1) will be on 11th April at 6.30pm for 30 mins at Duncan Street.
Please RSVP to email@example.com
Quickly becoming something that we all need as carers of kids, if you do not have a WWCC, or yours has expired, please go to http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/home/.
It’s easy to apply for, and even easier to renew. The more carers we have with a WWCC, the easier it is for us to run games and ensure that we are compliant with the Child Safety Act / SMJFLs requirements.
There are a few other dates that you should mark on your calendars now, with others to come over the next week or so.
Zebras Season Launch - Friday 13th April
Lock this one in – sure to be a great night! As part of our launch, we’ll be running our first Friday night skills night which is open to everyone and was really well received last year. Come along, watch the kids and have a chat with the awesome community of people we have at our club.
Team Photos – Monday May 14th and 21st
Your child’s Team and individual photos will be on one of these nights and while not yet allocated please try to keep both free so we can get as many of the kids as possible in the photos.
